Maryland Tech Council CEO Marty Rosendale Responds to Governor Hogan’s State of the State

In response go Governor Larry Hogan’s 2019 State of the State Address, Maryland Tech Council CEO Marty Rosendale released the following statement about innovation and the benefits it provides to Maryland’s economy and the patients who rely on it. The Maryland Tech Council is a collection of over 450 life science and technology companies across Maryland and advocates for commonsense regulation supporting innovation.
“The Maryland Tech Council commends Governor Hogan for his ongoing work to boost innovation and cultivate a positive business climate in Maryland, including his proposal for over a half-billion dollars in additional, much-needed tax relief. These efforts help foster private sector job growth, bring new business to Maryland, and help Maryland small businesses compete domestically and internationally. We also support his efforts to help patients in his first term, and his focus on improving health care moving forward.
“We agree with Governor Hogan that Maryland is a national leader in health care, and that it is critical to continue to foster the innovation that makes this possible. We also support the governor’s calls from earlier this month to avoid attempted solutions that are unconstitutional or illegal, as legislation aimed at price-gouging in 2017 was ruled.
“Any attempt to address rising costs must also be sure to continue to foster innovation that helps companies in Maryland produce the life-saving cures that patients in our state and around the world rely on. Onerous regulations, as have been proposed in years past, would undercut this innovation and the breakthrough cures that rely on the innovation economy.
“In 2019, the Maryland Tech Council looks forward to working with Governor Hogan and the Maryland General Assembly to foster innovation in Maryland that helps set us apart as a health care leader.”
