Gaithersburg, Maryland, October 8, 2019 – The Maryland Tech Council’s (MTC) signature event, the Bio Innovation Conference, presented by its life sciences division, Maryland Life Sciences (MDLS), drew hundreds of the region’s top industry leaders to Bethesda yesterday to connect and collaborate. The conference began with a welcome address from MTC’s CEO Martin Rosendale, followed by opening remarks from Maryland Secretary of Commerce Kelly M. Schulz who further emphasized Mr. Rosendale’s message of propelling the state and region to number one among life science hubs. American Gene Technologies (AGT) CEO and Founder Jeff Galvin, who is a member of the MDLS Board and whose company was the conference’s Diamond Sponsor, was next on the agenda. He shared that AGT has finalized its Investigational New Drug (IND) application with intentions to submit it to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Upon receiving clearance from the FDA, AGT plans to begin Phase I clinical testing of its HIV gene therapy.

  • Informative sessions that focused on topics ranging from alternative funding options and enabling the future of cell and gene therapy to new frontiers of biomanufacturing and cultivating the region’s start-ups

“We are thrilled with the conference turnout this year and are so very grateful to our sponsors, keynote and session speakers, the MTC team, and the conference committee who made this conference possible,” said Mr. Rosendale. “The energy was high, and the feedback from attendees was positive.
