On May 17, the Maryland Tech Council, along with more than 550 attendees, celebrated the 30th Annual Industry Awards Celebration.

The best examples of success with the Venture Mentor Service Program –  by the way – all of our mentors and mentee companies are fantastic; picking a few for recognition was virtually impossible – but our recognition went to our Volunteer of the Year and Mentee Company of the Year.

Congratulations to all the winners, including:

VMS Mentee Company of the Year, Remedy Plan Therapeutics
Volunteer of the Year, Lisa Beth Ferstenberg
Innovation for Impact Awards – Gemstone Biotherapeutics and Veralox Therapeutics

From inception we’ve gone from zero to 60 experienced and specially trained mentors and as important, we’ve gone from zero to 26 mentee companies all in the program free of charge to them and benefitting from the advice of our special teams. Among the 26 companies we are proud of their successful efforts at raising more than $15,000,000 in capital so far and adding dozens of FTEs to payrolls in Maryland.

A great and growing program – A special thank you to our longtime partner, Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation, represented at the event by Angela Graham.  In addition to funding, the county has provided a talented marketing team under Warren Ellis to us.  They gave us the content for the new web page and a special thank you to Angela Hongmanivanh, for the design and production.

We are looking forward to doubling next year and to expanded reach around the state – in fact we just welcomed IES Life Sciences, a young molecular diagnostics company who moved to Maryland for the support of our life sciences community and is head-quartered in Cambridge on the Eastern Shore.

A warm thank you to all VMS Mentees, Mentors, Managing Committee and Sponsors for a great year and to the MTC staff for a great evening and their continued support.
