Meet us September 14^th at the Big Idea CONNECTpreneur Fall Forum!

The MTC VMS program is looking for startup companies in the technology and life sciences fields, led by an individual or individuals who work full-time on the business that are preparing to raise their first venture capital or institutional round of financing.

The MTC VMS program is based on a team mentoring approach modeled after the highly-successful MIT Venture Mentoring Service, which has been implemented in more than 70 communities around the globe. The MTC VMS program is currently serving 16 Maryland-based startup companies, which have a nexus to Maryland and a demonstrated proof of concept for their respective product or service. 

MTC VMS assistance is given across a broad range of business activity, including product development, marketing, intellectual property law, finance, human resources, and founders issues. MTC VMS services are offered without charge to potential entrepreneurs/mentees whose applications are accepted.

The Maryland Tech Council Venture Mentoring Service Program (MTC VMS) is a team mentoring program based on a model developed by MIT. The program has been adopted in over 70 communities around the globe; the MTC VMS program is the 50th program. The ultimate goal of the program is to bring employment opportunities and capital to the area in the technology and life sciences fields by helping companies grow faster.

Mentee Opportunity

The MTC VMS is focused on companies in the technology and life sciences fields that are preparing to raise their first venture capital or institutional round of financing. Potential mentees are carefully selected and may include individuals whose organization is their first or second venture.

Potential mentee companies must be led by an individual or individuals who work full-time on the business and will be committed to the program and willing to take responsibility for engaging with their mentor team.

Potential mentees/entrepreneurs whose applications are accepted will have the opportunity to present to potential mentors at a monthly mentor meeting, after which the VMS will facilitate matches with interested mentors. The VMS team will provide guidelines to support the start-up of the relationship and assist in the ongoing management of the team mentoring meetings. Apply Here.

The Maryland Tech Council Venture Mentoring Services has now been in operation for just over a year, successfully completing its pilot phase.

The Mentors, as a group, are helping to grow the eco-system in Maryland, not only in growth, but with the sharing of their own special connectivity.

The MTC VMS program has a complete infrastructure carefully built to support the program as it grows and is vitally important to our community. As the program moves from pilot to full-scale operation and for years to come, we look forward to recognizing ventures and mentors who are committed to the VMS program.

This Program is one of Montgomery County’s true public private partnerships and was established in partnership with Montgomery County and the Department of Commerce, but belongs uniquely to the Maryland Tech Council and most importantly, for our tech and life science communities.

The MTC VMS program was recently awarded at the Maryland Tech Council Industry Awards Gala, celebrating the success of the pilot year and the stunning statistics.

Grow your future with the Maryland Tech Council Venture Mentoring Services Program (MTC VMS.) Get involved with our team-based mentoring program modeled after the highly-successful MIT Venture Mentoring Service (now implemented in more than 60 communities around the globe).

The ultimate goal of our program is to bring employment opportunities and capital to our area in the technology and life sciences fields by mentoring early stage companies.

We seek an intern to contact MTC VMS entrepreneurs and their mentors to schedule face to face meetings of the teams. The intern will also assist in gathering and organizing entrepreneur data, collecting and updating metrics, social media postings and preparing for monthly mentor breakfast meetings.

The intern will have the opportunity to network with local technology and life science CEO mentors and entrepreneurs. Due to the competitive nature of information collected and discussed at mentor-mentee meetings, all information collected, including information on the companies, topics of discussion, and content and individuals in attendance at meetings, is confidential and a signed confidentiality agreement may be required.

The ultimate goal of the program is to bring employment opportunities and capital to the area in the technology and life sciences fields by helping companies to grow faster. MTC VMS will provide mentoring services to Maryland tech and life sciences companies with a demonstrated proof of concept that are preparing for their first venture or institutional financing.

We are seeking mentee company candidates that meet the parameters for the mentor program.

Prospective mentees generally should have:

1. A “tie” to Maryland;
