New Internship Resource for your Organization

The Maryland Tech Council announces inMD, another resource for Maryland Companies in their search for great talent. And check out the Maryland Technology Internship Reimbursement Program and see if you qualify to get reimbursed up to 50% or $3,000 of your internship costs!

The Maryland Tech Council has a diverse and statewide membership consisting of different sized organizations. We have contacted and listened to companies, organizations, colleges, universities, and students statewide about talent acquisition and workforce development. Through panels, surveys, casual conversations and focus groups we have found a common need. The problem that we hear from organizations of all sizes is ever growing skills gap. Many recent graduates the correct soft skills to hit the ground running as an intern or entry-level employee. Organizations, especially small to medium sized, are finding that it is often too challenging to hire  interns that busy employers want to invest time and effort in developing an effective employee. Companies need qualified talent and students need internships if our state is to continue to prosper.

Currently employers have many fragmented options when attempting to hire skilled interns. Word of mouth, friends and family or contacting each college and/or university career center are just a few ways organizations look for interns. Employers do not have the time or resource to engage in so many places. The Maryland Tech Council has partnered with Breezio and Fearless and is funded by the state of Maryland and Sponsors to create inMD, the internship network for the state of Maryland. inMD will be a fantastic resource where organizations in Maryland can find strong skilled entry level talent for internships.

What is inMD?

inMD is the next generation marketplace for talent and industry in the state of Maryland. inMD is a

digital marketplace where students, mentors and companies converge in an online learning and information exchange. By posting your internships, sharing information on your company, and engaging your employees in the community, you’ll join an ecosystem where students are actively exploring their career options and earning badges for completing training for your company or industry, doing informational interviews, and engaging with industry experts.

inMD WILL LAUNCH in-md.org IN AUGUST 2018!

The Investors are Noticing Maryland

Maryland’s innovation is getting attention from investors.  For the first time since 2001, investors deployed over $400 Million in one quarter into Maryland companies in the first quarter of 2018. This amazing number surpasses the total ANNUAL funding that Maryland saw in 2012, 2014 and 2016. In the region Maryland wins too! The top deal in the region was a $250 Million investment in a Maryland company. The top 4 deals in the region went to Maryland companies accounting for $340 Million or 64% of the regional dollars.

Why is the investment up in Maryland?  I think in addition to having the most innovative companies in the world, Maryland is focused on providing resources for companies to thrive and grow. Maryland Tech Council is providing resources for our members to thrive and grow through education, connection and advocacy. We just finished protecting legislation and getting new legislation passed that would give credits to investors in the cyber and bio space. In addition, we have been focused on training companies who need investment. We finished our first cohort of FounderTrac on April 3 and will have another cohort in the fall. Finally, we have been helping our members connect. We are partnering with CONNECTpreneur for the ECVC- The East Coast VentureCon on May 23 to showcase our innovative Maryland companies to potential partners and investors and also have one planned for the fall.

Let us know what you are doing. We want to help our members. Let us know what you are working on and let us know when you complete a big deal or finish a financing round.  Getting this information out to the rest of the world not only helps you but also helps promote Maryland’s Innovative community.  Email any success stories to me at tami@mdtechcouncil.com!
