Prince George’s Community College Partners with Prince George’s County Public Schools for Student Media Day
LARGO, Md. (November 24, 2021) –
PGCC-TV, Prince George’s Community College’s award-winning studio, partnered with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) on November 18 for its annual Student Media Day. The signature event invites middle and high school students interested in media careers to the College to participate in experiential learning, where they are equipped to become the next generation of media professionals. Approximately 500 students participated in this year’s event.
“PGCC-TV is proud to partner with PGCPS to present Media Day,” said Dr. Angela Mathis, manager of PGCC-TV and part-time faculty member. “Since we couldn’t be in person this year, we developed a curriculum that included a video challenge for students enrolled in media arts classes at their middle school or high school.”
“We work with teachers to evaluate student video entries and teach students how to anchor a news magazine that showcases their videos. It is our hope that the students who participate in Media Day will consider enrolling in Prince George’s Community College’s mass comm program, where they can take advantage of our state-of-the-art studios and learn from media professionals who are faculty here,” she added.
